EVSC Good Schools Getting Better

Educational Services

The instructional program of the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation (EVSC) includes a wide range of opportunities for learning for all students. Our teachers and administrators are committed to promoting academic achievement, to developing each child’s individual talents, and to encouraging the attitudes and habits of lifelong learning.

The office of Educational Services oversees curriculum development and implementation into the classroom. The Assistant Superintendent and curriculum supervisors plan, develop and implement district level professional development including technology training, for teachers and other district staff. These programs are coordinated with building level professional development and assessment activities.

The Office of Educational Services is responsible for:
    • Instructional programs
    • Curriculum Planning
    • Evaluation of pupil progress
    • Professional Development
    • Instructional Coaches
    • Textbook Adoption
    • Academic Standards
    • Grants
    • Title I
    • Graduation requirements

Opportunities for extended learning exist at all grade levels from preschool through adult education. Included among the academic programs are:

Advanced Placement (AP) and Honors Classes
These courses are offered in all areas of the curriculum. Some honors courses are identified with an H after the title. Others are designated Advance Placement. Those students who elect to take Advanced Placement examinations in the spring may earn college credit.

Dual Credit Courses
EVSC high school students may receive both high school and college credit for some courses taken in the regular high school. The E-VSC has dual credit agreements with UE, USI, Ivy Tech and Vincennes University.

The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme
Offered at Bosse High School, this comprehensive and challenging pre-university course is designed for highly motivated juniors and seniors. This sophisticated two-year curriculum covers a wide range of academic subjects and has earned a reputation for rigorous assessment, giving IB diploma holders access to the world’s leading universities. It is recommended that students desiring to pursue an IB Diploma transfer to Bosse High School as a freshman in order to take the Pre-IB classes in grades 9 and 10 that will prepare them to enter the IB Programme in their junior year.

Career and Technical Education
The E-VSC Southern Indiana Career and Technical Center offers a wide range of programs in career and technical education. Juniors and seniors may enroll in a two-year technical program to earn job certifications and credits toward their high school diploma. The Career Center prepares students to enter the workforce directly from high school or to continue into a technical school or four-year university program.

English as a New Language (ENL)
ENL classes serve students whose first language is other than English. Elementary students are served in their home schools. Middle and high school students spend half of the day in their home schools and the other half at our International Newcomers Academies that are located at Washington Middle School and Bosse High School.

Gifted and Talented
The gifted and talented program serves children in grades two through twelve. Identified students will maximize their potential through a differentiated curriculum that will accelerate and enrich their experiences and will allow them to become independent, self-directed learners.

In addition to programs during the regular school day, the EVSC offers after school programs and a large number of extracurricular activities at all schools. For more information, please contact individual schools, curriculum supervisors or the Instruction Office.
